Ford’s venerable Mustang isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

We have already heard thoughts that the next Ford Mustang arrives in 2022, and now we hear that the Blue Oval apparently plans to keep its next seventh-generation pony car galloping through 2030.

Citing sources close to the Blue Oval plans, the Automotive News industry publication reported on Monday that Ford will hold onto this next pony car for a long eight-year cycle. AN sources also reaffirmed a production start date of 2022, which would at least give life to the next Mustang until the end of this decade.

When asked about this report, Ford declined to comment on the future product to Roadshow.

An eight-year lifecycle for the next Mustang wouldn’t be totally surprising, since the current car has been around since 2014, but according to the report, Ford originally predicted a shorter lifespan of six years for the next Mustang.

Previously, Ford maybe accidentally alludes to a 2022 production date for the revamped Mustang in its own job list. Last February, the automaker called candidates on LinkedIn for a winning candidate to contribute to the next-gen Mustang. The list indicated that this person would be the “final signing” of the “S650 2023 program”. The current Mustang carries the designation S550.

The date 2023 hints at a model year, which matches the rumor of the start of production in 2022. In fact, the job list also mentioned a debut in 2022. We might still see something at the end of the year. next, but for now it looks like we’re two years away from any big Mustang news.

As for the car itself, details are extremely scarce. A lingering rumor, however, indicates that the Mustang is moving to Ford’s CD6 platform, which also underpins the latest Explorer and the Lincoln Aviator.
