PG&E continues to do blackouts on Tuesday, if necessary, to reduce strain on the power grid during this heat wave. And while you won’t be warned in advance like you would a fire safety shutdown, you can check a map to see if you are losing power at some point on Tuesday afternoon or evening.
Vast swathes of the Bay Area fall under “Interrupt Block 50,” which will not see their electricity go out – this includes much of San Francisco and Oakland, and as far north as Santa Rosa . Enter your address here to see if you fall into that “50” block, and if so, then you’re fine. (PG&E can avoid cutting power in dense urban areas as much as possible for safety reasons.)
If a fault block number and sub fault block letter appear when you enter your address, you take the number and letter, match them up, and this is the block number you are looking for on the calendar shown. below. At 4 p.m., for example, 1K to 1R blocks lose energy for two to three hours.
As ABC7 notes, if you are in the 6A to 6F blackout block, you fall into the fifth set of outages and you may not lose power at all if the pressure on the grid has stabilized at 8pm.
