Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams will release a new song on Friday about the racial inequalities black people face in the United States.
Williams, 47, announced the single on Instagram Thursday and also spoke about it to Time magazine as part of his new cover pack with the post titled “The New American Revolution”. The artist helped set up talks with a number of big names for the outlet, including Angela Davis, Tyler the Creator and Naomi Osaka, who weigh in on racial inequalities in the country with their own experiences.
Williams teased a few lines from the new song to help explain its theme.

“In this position without choice / They imprison young black boys / Distracted with white noise,” Williams says in the song, according to Time.
According to the report, Jay-Z also refers to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in the song with the lyrics, “Black Twitter, what is it? When Jack gets paid, right? ? For every Gucci, support two FUBUs. “
“The intention of a song was first and foremost how difficult it is to be an entrepreneur in our country,” Williams told the magazine. “Especially as a person of color, there are a lot of systemic downsides and intentional blockages. How can you start a fire, or even hope for an embers to light a fire, when you are leaving with disadvantages in health care, education and representation?
Williams discussed the idea of the “American Dream” with the outlet, which he said has always been “the house and the fence, the wife and the two children.”
