Broadcaster Thom Brennaman will no longer call NFL games on FOX Sports after using a homophobic slur on the air by calling a baseball game Wednesday night.
Brennaman, who called NFL games for FOX, has been suspended as the play-by-play voice of the Cincinnati Reds and will not be in the NFL either.
“FOX Sports is extremely disappointed with Thom’s remarks on the Cincinnati Reds television broadcast on Wednesday,” the network said in a statement. “The language used was heinous, unacceptable and not representative of FOX Sports values. As for Brennaman’s role in the FOX NFL, we are moving forward with our NFL schedule which will not include her.
Brennaman said the words “One of the FG’s world capitals” during the Reds game, without further context, when he seemed to think the show was on commercial break. Shortly after, he apologized and was subsequently taken out of the game.
“I made a comment earlier this evening which I guess was aired and which I’m deeply ashamed of,” Brennaman said on air. “If I hurt someone there, I can’t tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart that I am so sorry. I am proud of myself and consider myself a man of faith.
