Trent Alexander-Arnold could feature in Liverpool’s Community Shield clash with Arsenal – but Jurgen Klopp remains without a host of senior first-team players as he aims for more silverware.
The Premier League champions take on the FA Cup holders in the traditional curtain-raiser of the new season on Saturday at Wembley (kick-off at 4.30 p.m.).
Alexander-Arnold missed the recent training camp in Austria and did not take part in Liverpool’s two warm-up friendlies, but instead remains in Merseyside to work on fitness after suffering an injury complaint minor.
And a late decision will be made on the right-back, although Virgil van Dijk is available despite being forced to leave the 2-2 draw at Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday with a cut above his right eye.

“Trent, very close, we have to make a decision for tomorrow,” said Liverpool boss Klopp on Friday afternoon.
“Virgil looks good. He doesn’t look good because he has the cut, but other than that he should be fine.”
The game came too early for Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip, who both missed the final weeks of last season with knee and foot problems respectively, but are expected to return to full training next week.
Xherdan Shaqiri and Harry Wilson hope to follow suit, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain slowly accelerates his recovery from a knee injury.
“All the (other) boys who weren’t involved so far or who had slight blows in the preseason won’t be available for tomorrow, but (are) closer and closer, really closer, to closer and closer, ”Klopp added.
“I hope the majority of them can start training in a completely normal way after the Arsenal game, but this game is now a bit too early for them. Maybe one or two (will be) involved in the team, you have to see.
“That is just about everything. Hendo and Joel look really good, on the right track. Ox, early stages but good. Shaq, good. Harry looks good.
Rhian Brewster scored twice against Salzburg as a second-half substitute after scoring from the bench in the 3-0 win over Stuttgart last weekend.
And Klopp has confirmed that the 20-year-old, who has landed 11 times in 22 appearances on loan alongside the Swansea City Championship earlier this year, will be involved at Wembley.
“We will have to see what happens in the next few weeks,” said the Reds boss, when asked about the forward’s future plans. “We want to use Rhian and help him as well. We have to make decisions, but not now.
“He’s still a young boy. As the experience of number nine helps a lot. We have to see how we give him experience, whether here or elsewhere. We don’t have to rush anything. .
“For now, he’s here and will be involved in the squad tomorrow.”
