Jurassic World: Dominion wraps up UK filming after spending £ 6million on COVID-19 security

Jurassic World: Dominion has completed filming at Pinewood Studios in England, having passed stringent health and safety measures worth around £ 6million.

The sixth film in the Jurassic Park franchise has become the first major film to resume production amid the COVID-19 crisis, as lockdown restrictions began to ease over the summer.

To do this, the cast and crew had to isolate themselves together for months without being able to see their families, and a total of 40,000 coronavirus tests were performed in the process.

According to Deadline, the Jurassic World set was equipped with a “ Greenzone, ” which allowed staff to check the temperature daily, many medical staff on hand, and isolation booths close at hand.

Pinewood plastered 1,800 COVID-related panels in the studios and added 150 hand sanitizer stations as well as 60 additional sinks for hand washing. At the end of each day, all common areas were anti-viral fog.

Due to the strict measures, only about 100 COVID-19 tests have come back positive – some of which were false positives.

One positive case forced production to temporarily halt last month, but it was a minor key in the works and filming quickly resumed.

Director Colin Trevorrow [second left] – who also co-wrote the sequel – marked the end of filming this weekend by posting a snap with some of the cast on Instagram, captioning it: “ Wrap on Jurassic World Dominion. Always hard to say goodbye to the family ‘

Director Colin Trevorrow said: ‘I’m not sure I can put it into words. It has been remarkable. Our team and our actors have been so resilient. All the producers worked around the clock to make it the best it could be. It has been inspiring.

Comparing the process of returning to work in the midst of a pandemic as being part of a family, he added: “ I have never been so immersed in a process of making films. Due to the protocols, the actors did not go far from the set. The distance has been removed. There was a lot of laughter at a time when it was hard to find things to laugh about.

The film continues the Jurassic Park saga, picking up where 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom left off, with a collection of dinosaurs – including a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Velocirapter – roaming free in mainland America.

And Trevorrow reflected on that theme, and how well it fits in today’s times.

“This film is about the need to coexist and survive together. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that the different generations need to protect each other. It was the right movie to make right now, ”he added.

The film features Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, but brings back Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who starred in the 1993 original Jurassic Park.

While all three have since appeared in the franchise again [Neill and Dern in 2001’s Jurassic Park III, Goldblum in 1997’s The Lost World and 2018’s Fallen Kingdom] it will be the first time that the trio will be on the set again.

The film also sees the return of recurring BD cast actors Wong, Justice Smith, Isabella Sermon, Omar Sy and Daniella Pineda, and adds Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise to the list.

While the film was supposed to be the end of the Jurassic World trilogy, producer Frank Marshall told Collider earlier this year that it likely won’t be the end of the Jurassic Park franchise.

“It’s the start of a new era,” he said. “Dinosaurs are now with us on the continent, and they will remain so for a long time to come, I hope.

Due to the pandemic, Jurassic World: Dominion’s release date has been pushed back a year, to June 10, 2022.
