For only the second time this season, Miami is an underdog. Las Vegas-based punters posted the initial betting spreads for the upcoming college football week on Sunday, and they have the Hokies as 2-point favorites over the Hurricanes.
Miami, which rose to 9th in the AP Top 25 poll, rallied to beat NC State, 44-41, last Friday as D’Eriq King totaled 536 yards on offense and five touchdowns. Virginia Tech, on the other hand, lost 38-35 to Liberty on a last-second basket. at home

“You hear the coaches say these things. You’ve heard me say it and you never know if it’s really true, it’s hard to measure. We have a connected football team. We have guys who will fight for each other, we have guys who will stake everything for each other because if we hadn’t, we would have been exposed tonight and we would have found a way to lose that football game. .
“We never expected this game to be easy. I don’t think we expected it to be 44-41, but we knew from watching NC State on film this year that they were 4-2 at our conference. We were 4-1. They were half a game behind us. So to get this one, we think next week will be the same. It’s our league. We are ready for these battles, but at the same time we have a chance to improve.
“We had to clean up and improve some things that are hurting our chances and we did enough to hurt ourselves tonight. If we can fix these things it will make us more competitive at home, away, against any opponent.
