BYU Football: Cougars reach 8th place in national polls

BYU moved up to 8th in the latest Associated Press and Coaches polls released Sunday after the Cougars’ most impressive win of the season, a 51-17 blowout at the time. 21 State of Boise.

The one-place jump was expected, after Georgia lost 44-28 to Florida in a Top 10 game, and BYU edged out the Bulldogs (now No. 12 in AP and No. 11 in coaching) in both polls.

This is the Cougars’ highest ranking in the AP since rising to 7th place in the 2009 season. BYU is in its first 8-0 start since 2001 and fourth in school history. The Broncos fell out of the ballot box with the home loss to the Cougars.

There was a lot of movement in the top 10 following the weekend’s results which saw Notre Dame overthrow the previous top-ranked team, Clemson, 47-40, in double overtime.

Alabama (6-0), who was on a bye, took first place in both polls.

• The Fighting Irish (7-0) rose to No.2 in the AP and Coaches polls and won first place votes in both (two in AP, four in Coaches), while Crimson Tide is the overwhelming vote of the first place getter.
• Ohio State (3-0), after a resounding victory over Rutgers, remained No. 3 in the AP and Coaches polls.
• Clemson (7-1) fell to No.4 in both polls with the loss.
• Florida (4-1), with the victory over Georgia, rose to 5th in the coaching poll, while Texas A&M (5-1), with a resounding victory over South Carolina, is now n ° 5 of the AP survey.
• Cincinnati (6-0), the best team in the Group of Five, fell to 7th in both polls despite beating Houston 38-10.
• Indiana (3-0), with a dominant win over Michigan, is now No. 10 in both polls after starting the year without a ranking.

The Pac-12 finally kicked off their season, and after a 35-14 win over Stanford, Oregon climbed two spots in the Coaches Poll to No.12 and one spot to No.11 in the poll. AP.
