Vaccine expert ousted from Biden virus task force

President-elect Joe Biden has announced members of his coronavirus task force, which will develop a plan to tackle the pandemic.

The co-chairs are former Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy, former Commissioner of the Food Drug Administration Dr David Kessler and Dr Marcella Nunez-Smith, professor and researcher at Yale University.

Members of the task force include Rick Bright, vaccine expert and former head of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority. Bright filed a whistleblower complaint alleging he was reassigned to a less important position because he had resisted political pressure to allow the widespread use of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug pushed by President Donald Trump as a COVID-19 treatment.

Other members include Luciana Borio, biodefense specialist; Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, oncologist and chair of bioethics at the National Institutes of Health; Dr Atul Gawande, Clinton administration health adviser and surgical expert; Dr. Celine Gounder, an infectious disease specialist who has studied HIV / AIDS and tuberculosis; Dr. Julie Morita, pediatrician and immunization specialist; Dr Michael Osterholm, infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist; Loyce Pace, Global Health Specialist; Dr. Robert Rodriguez, an expert in emergency medicine who has researched the mental health of COVID-19 responders; and Dr Eric Goosby, an infectious disease specialist who has worked in the field of AIDS / HIV.
