Those who seek to run The Last Guardian at 60 fps smoothly on the PlayStation 5 will need to own the game disc.
The Last Guardian was originally released with no frame rate limit, but it was later patched, setting the frame rate limit to 30 fps. According to a video from NX Gamer, the only way to get past this is to run it on the PlayStation 5 using the physical disk.
That being said, if you pre-ordered the discless version of the PlayStation 5, you won’t be able to play The Last Guardian at 60 fps at all, unless another patch comes out to extend the frame rate limit.
It’s unclear if other backward-compatible PlayStation 4 games will also have this issue where you need the physical disc to play at 60fps, but it is a reminder that physical discs are nice to have.
Polygon has contacted Sony for clarification, but has yet to receive a response.
The PlayStation 5 will launch on November 12, alongside several games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demonic souls.
