CBS Sports 127 are a week ahead of most college football polls and rankings – not just this season but in general, although it happened again seven days ago when Alabama was named. the country’s new No.1 team last week. The first-place votes had been moved between Alabama, Clemson and even the state of Ohio for a few weeks, and after the Crimson Tide blew up the state of Mississippi while Clemson needed a rally Late to wipe out a double-digit halftime deficit against Boston College, enough votes changed hands to make the trade official.
Alabama was moved to No.1, while Clemson moved to No.2. Clemson is now No.4, while Notre Dame edged him out after the victory. However, unlike some of the top 25 polls released on Sunday, the Fighting Irish did not beat Ohio State, which narrowly finished in the poll for second place.
Florida comes in 5th after beating Georgia this weekend, a spot ahead of the Texas A&M team that beat them earlier this season in College Station, TX. The Aggies are tight in a trio with No.7 BYU and No.8 Cincinnati, all within a few percentage points of each other. However, the Gators at No.5 and Oregon at No.9 are a bit separated from this field.

The biggest movers
- N ° 19 Freedom (+18): Our constituents were resisting the Flames, but the victory at Virginia Tech holds our attention. Liberty is now 2-0 against ACC teams and will get a crack at a third against NC State later this month, then a much-anticipated regular-season final against Coastal Carolina. Start the Hugh Freeze draw because this team will be in the national spotlight for the rest of the year.
- Army n ° 29 (+15): Saturday’s game against the Air Force was postponed due to COVID-19, but plenty of jerking just outside the top 25 with the Big Ten teams falling and an instant reaction to the Pac-12 action allowed the Black Knights to make a big move up the rankings.
- No. 30 Arkansas (+13): Of all the new SEC hires, Sam Pittman’s arrival in Arkansas came with the least buzz or fanfare. But Pittman’s first season as a coach is looking to be one of the most successful of all freshman coaches across the country. After beating Tennessee, the Razorbacks are up more than a dozen places in the top 30.
- N ° 35 Virginia Tech (-9): Justin Fuente has this team at a crossroads after the second outright loss as a double-digit favorite this season. Virginia Tech not only lost at home to Liberty as a double-digit favorites, but did so with a total run-down collapse on the field and on the sideline in the final 10 seconds.
- # 48 Michigan (-19): If Michigan had looked better in a loss to Indiana, we might not have seen such a stark adjustment in the standings. After all, the Hoosiers are off to a good start and have the momentum of a strong performance in 2019 to help build their reputation with our constituents. But the Wolverines couldn’t get back into the game in the second half, and I think that led to a more dramatic drop in the standings.
- No.52 Penn State (-31): There hasn’t been another fire sale in the standings quite like the way our voters bailed out Penn State after the Nittany Lions’ loss to Maryland. At 0-2 we still believed in Penn State, but after this weekend, the free fall is no surprise.
