It’s in the trailer for Happiest season, Hulu’s upcoming romantic comedy and release story starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis. That’s because Stewart’s Abby planned a romantic proposal to Davis’s Harper in front of her whole family at their annual Christmas dinner … until she found out that Harper’s family felt like she was is straight and that Abby is his straight “orphan roommate”, not his resident girlfriend. “I am an orphan, but we live together like friends, like acquaintances”, she lies badly. When the stress of secrecy begins to weigh on their relationship, Abby’s first step is to call her best friend, played by Schitt Creek visionary Daniel Levy. “Yes, I’m very sexually attracted to her, a woman,” he half-heartedly lies to Harper’s mother, played by Mary Steenburgen. Happiest season hand out the fun of the holidays, but only with all the real-life angst of wanting your family’s approval and being honest about who you are.
