Jim Carrey fans are calling the actor to make Ace Ventura 3 after citing one of the character’s classic lines on Saturday Night Live. Following the results of the 2020 presidential election, Carrey has come to light in the last SNL to portray President-elect Joe Biden. In the final moments of the sketch, Carrey’s Biden called Donald Trump a “loser,” placing heavy emphasis on the word in Ace Ventura’s vein. Longtime Carrey fans knew right away who he was referring to, and the studio audience cheered loudly.
On social media, fans have since increased their calls to Ace Ventura 3 after noticing the easter egg on SNL. “I have no doubts that @JimCarrey} was picked to play Joe Biden on #SNL just for the chance to bring The Pet Detective back one last time,” one fan tweets. “This is the second biggest thing that has happened in 2020. Can we have Ace Ventura 3, Please?”
“And just like that, I demand that they do Ace Ventura 3, “another tweets, including a music video from SNL quote.
Many other fan tweets echo these thoughts, including one that parodies Donald Trump’s campaign slogan by stating: “Ace Ventura 3 – let’s really make America great again. “
Released in 1994, Ace Ventura: Animal Detective was an escape role for Jim carrey. It starred Carrey as a goofy detective investigating the disappearance of a kidnapped dolphin mascot. One of the most popular comedies of its day, the film achieved huge box office success and firmly established Carrey as a true movie star. The following year, Carrey reprized the role of the sequel Ace Ventura 2: When nature calls, which nearly doubled the box office yield of the original film.
In the years that followed, it seemed highly unlikely that Carrey would ever return to the role. Technically, a third Ace Ventura was previously made in the form of the 2007 television spin-off film Ace Ventura Jr. Pet Detective, which starred Josh Flitter as the son of Carrey’s character. Still, fans had renewed hope for Ace Ventura 3 after Carrey starred in a Stupid and even more stupid sequel in 2014, showing he’s ready to make modern sequels to his classic comedies. With the rumors of Ace Ventura 3, there were also some fan discussions about The mask 2, but it remains to be seen whether either of the plans will ever come to fruition.
These days, Carrey is spending a lot more time on the small screen. He starred in the critically acclaimed Showtime drama Joke for two seasons as a children’s television host whose life is turned upside down. Of course, he has since moved on to playing Joe Biden on SNL, a concert that could very well continue for the next four (or eight) years. Yet, given fan interest in the concept, it’s still possible Carrey will return to the Ace Ventura series of films for one last time.
