She is known for her countless books and her weekly show The Pioneer Woman on the Food Network.
And in Ree Drummond’s new book Frontier Follies, she reveals that she has an adopted son named Jamar.
The cookbook author / TV star shared a snippet on his website, with the headline “Bonus Kid”.
Ree, 51, said she couldn’t speak to him before due to law and state restrictions, but now that he’s 18, that no longer applies.
So Sweet: She’s known for her countless books and her weekly show The Pioneer Woman on the Food Network. And in Ree Drummond’s new book Frontier Follies, she reveals that she has an adopted son named Jamar.
Further, Ree wrote: ‘I am writing about Jamar now because after a year and a half of living in our house he is such a big part of our wacky family. ”
Adding: ‘And it just got weirder and stranger for me not to talk about him. He’s now eighteen, which means state agency restrictions no longer apply – and most notably, he told me he’s had enough of feeling like we’re trying to hide it. of the world.
Ree and Ladd have four children: sons Bryce, 18, and Todd, 16, and daughters Alex, 23, and Paige, 21.
She wrote that Jamar became their “ adopted son was fully situational ”.
Ree explained that previously welcoming a child wasn’t something she and her husband Ladd all felt called to do, but they couldn’t ignore Jamar’s circumstances.
She said: ‘In short, every six foot five of him showed up at our house one afternoon, bag in hand, ready to move in. ”
Ladd had met him a few times in high school football training and had the initial idea of living with them.
A few days after arriving, Jamar had a serious accident with an ATV, requiring skin grafting on his foot as well as double tendon repair surgery.
Jamar dreamed of continuing his football career and the injury was a ‘risky and frightening moment’ as it took six weeks for him to heal.
He ended up gaining thirty pounds during that time because she said she tried to drown him when he was bedridden; he has since lost the thirty pounds he gained.
So cute: Ladd had met him several times in high school football training and had the initial idea that he should live with them
Due to the injury, it “ made us all have to be very close and quick, ” adding that she changed his bandage every day, gave him his meds, watched him all night.
Ladd took him to his doctor’s appointments and his physical therapy session, while his sons Bryce and Todd helped him get in and out of bed and helped him wrap his foot in plastic before a shower and spend time with him.
“ We were all involved in Jamar’s business, and if there had been any reluctance from any of our parties to interact and get comfortable with each other, his injury quickly brought down these walls and gave us all a reason to come together.
Adding: “Jamar had to learn to trust us, which was not easy. But again, crash course.
Ree kindly called him “my bonus son”: he’s larger than life, has a hilarious laugh, and is extremely intelligent – both in the books and on the streets. He’s a great kid who overcame some hardships in his life, not to mention a tough accident (and a foster mom who overfed him and unwittingly tried to turn him into a fly fisherman).
Mignon: Ree and Ladd have four children: sons Bryce, 18, and Todd, 16, and daughters Alex, 23, and Paige, 21
