Oddly enough, there is no formal payment flow yet. A video demonstrating the feature shows a “message company” option, but no buy or “add to cart” button. WhatsApp recently released another video showing its take on “how easy it is to think messaging should be a business”. There was an “add to cart” option displayed in this demo. The button is just the first step towards a more robust shopping experience on WhatsApp, although a spokesperson could not confirm when the service will expand functionality.
Facebook has made more inroads in shopping across its various services over the past two years. Instagram, for example, recently extended its shopping functionality to IGTV and Reels. Last November, Facebook launched its own payment system, Facebook Pay.
