Assuming Alabama and LSU play this weekend, Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t think it will really be a game, claiming Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide will “blow” Ed Orgeron’s Tigers.
“Normally it’s one of those games that everyone surrounds and it’s like ‘The Game’. Not just in the SEC, but the whole country can’t wait for Alabama and LSU, ”ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit said on the CFB podcast with Herbie, Pollack & Negandhi. “It won’t be this year. I think Alabama will blow up LSU every phase, in every way imaginable.
“For me, for Bama, it’s – as always – a question of counter-perfection. It’s not about who we’re playing this week: LSU, Kentucky, Auburn, Arkansas. It’s more on themselves and just trying to keep raising the bar. And I think I will continue to learn to play without Jaylen Waddle. Not just this week, but – looking at their overall goals and winning the SEC and the national title, they’re going to have to keep growing and continue to be versatile enough.
Alabama, who have dominated the series lately, haven’t lost in Baton Rouge since 2010.
“They just keep scoring points and continue to show that they can attack in different ways,” he said.
The game, however, is very uncertain.
LSU coach Ed Orgeron announced Monday afternoon that the Tigers were facing COVID concerns and did not rule out that the Crimson Tide game could be postponed or canceled. Oregron moves forward as the game plays out.
According to SEC rules, teams must have at least 53 fellows available to play a game, including a quarterback, seven offensive linemen and four defensive linemen.
Meanwhile, Herbstreit said that “the Alabama team that you see taking the field is what they’ve been for 12 or 13 years.”
Herbsteit also ranked their best teams in CFP terms. He ranked Alabama No.1, followed, in order, by Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson. Then he began to take an interest in teams such as Texas A&M, Florida, BYU and Cincinnati.
