Carson Wentz has struggled at times this season and it has raised the widely debated debate about regression and whether the Eagles picked the right quarterback. Wentz plays like a gunslinger and has been compared to former Packers great Brett Favre.
The comparison is ironic as it seems Favre doesn’t feel the same, and on Tuesday, during a visit to ESPN’s first take, the Hall of Fame quarterback provided some insight into Wentz’s struggles.
When asked if Wentz was a franchise quarterback, Favre appeared to have questions based on the Eagles star’s inconsistent play. While digging deeper into the matter, Favre said the Eagles probably should have kept Nick Foles at quarterback instead of Wentz.
The comments are funny as Favre focused on Wentz’s lack of ball safety and inconsistency, but the Hall of Famer threw more than 20 interceptions in 7 different seasons during his playing career by Pro Football Reference .
Wentz is shaping his game after Favre and through the first 9 weeks of the regular season, just over halfway through the 2020 season, and Carson Wentz currently leads the entire NFL in interceptions (12). Wentz was criticized Monday for reaffirming his aggressive nature as a gunslinger, saying he would always cross that thin line between giving up a game and doing big things.
Favre may have his opinion after winning three MVP awards, one Super Bowl, was named to three All-Pro teams. The Hall of Famer have also led the league in interceptions on three different occasions, and unlike Wentz, Favre has never thrown less than 13 picks in a season while playing for the Green Bay Packers.
