If in doubt, Rocket League will be playable on PlayStation 5. You will be able to play the popular free title on PS5 via backward compatibility, and with your Epic Games account, your Rocket Pass progress and inventory will carry over. Developer Psyonix has also taken the time to describe how the game performs on next-gen consoles, and it’s Microsoft’s machines that are getting the most attention.
On Xbox Series X, the game will run in native 4K at 60fps at launch, with an update coming later this year that will introduce a 120fps mode at reduced resolution. On the S series, the game runs at 1080p60, while a future update will also allow it to run at 120fps. Meanwhile, on PS5, Rocket League will run checkered 4K and 60fps – which is identical to PS4 Pro – and there is no inbound update later, according to the blog.
The game is already running great and will continue to do so on PS5, but unfortunately you will miss the 120fps mode that Xbox Series consoles will get. It’s not clear if Sony’s console will receive this update at a later date. We have attempted to get a response and will keep you posted if we learn more.
