EXCLUSIVE: Put Mads Mikkelsen at the top of the list of actors considered to replace Johnny Depp in the film directed by David Yates Fantastic beast 3, the third installment of the Harry Potter spin-off based on the JK Rowling fantasy franchise. Sources said he was Yates’ choice to play in Grindelwald and that he was in early talks. The goal is to keep on track an image that recently shifted its original release date from November 12, 2021 to summer 2022. The cast led by Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law is already rolling.

Depp was asked by Warner Bros to step down from the role after he came out the loser in a nasty legal battle he waged against a UK tabloid for defaming him by describing him as a ‘woman beater’ in articles that covered her tumultuous marriage to Aquaman star Amber Heard. The judge sided with the newspaper. Depp was reportedly asked to leave after one day filming on the film – he gets paid for the entire movie but had a five-picture deal – and Warner Bros. has been running since to lock in a new actor. There has been speculation on a number of thesps, but I’ve heard that Yates is a huge Mikkelsen fan and the Danish actor is the guy they’re trying to lock down. He recently completed the Chaos Walking directed by Doug Liman. Stay tuned.

It is replaced by UTA.
