Former players take action on theft issues

Fans weren’t the only ones upset by the loss of the Tennessee Football Volunteers to Arkansas.

With the click of a button, “Vol Nation” becomes “Vol Twitter,” an online presence powerful enough to tip rookies and block coach hires even after they happen. For SEC and Tennessee football, it just means more.

Through social media, fans have the opportunity to interact with former players they watched on TV and heard the late John Ward shout on the lively fall evenings. For many of these players, it’s been years since they last wore the orange Power T on their helmets, but they know what it’s like to be in caucuses, locker rooms and under the discretion of the coaches.

Not that these men necessarily know more about UT’s coaching situation following their loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks, but there is something to be said about the guys who were on the court talking openly about the matter. When VFL speaks, you are listening. You will notice that many of them see that something is clearly wrong with the Flights.

Jayson swain

It’s no surprise to find Jayson Swain on this list, the former UT wide receiver who played under Phillip Fulmer from 2003 to 2006 now hosts a sports radio show about Tennessee football. The former Chicago Bear didn’t mince words when he tweeted about the performance of Vols on Saturday, also giving an opinion on the foul.

Ramon foster

After an 11-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ramon Foster still takes time off every Saturday to watch the college he played for from 2004 to 2008 under Fulmer. You’ll notice that a lot of Foster, like Swain, didn’t necessarily have a problem with the players themselves, rather with what they were told to do.

Brett kendrick

Another former Tennessee football offensive lineman Brett Kendrick, who blocked Butch Jones from 2013 to 2017, is no stranger to expressing his thoughts on the current state of the program. He made no exceptions on Saturday. Kendrick, like many, questioned Pruitt’s decision to go for the fourth and fourth base rather than hitting a basket to bring Arkansas down to one score.

Aaron Hayden

Aaron Hayden, a former San Diego Chargers draft pick who ran over 2,000 yards under Johnny Majors and Fulmer from 1991 to 1994, also had something to say. Although he also stressed his concern about the current state of the program, Hayden is not sure of a change of coach yet.

So, Tennessee football fans, if you are wondering what was going on against the Arkansas Razorbacks, you are not alone. Even some of the former players can’t help but wonder what’s going on behind closed doors in Knoxville.
