Put 70 inches of Android TV goodness in your living room for just $ 400.

Hisense

How far can they go? I’m talking about the prices of the big TVs, of course, not the attendees at Limbo Mania 2020. Last month I was thrilled to see a 70-inch model cut to $ 500. Best Buy, today: Hold my beer.

For a limited time and while supplies last, you can get the Hisense H65 70 inch 4K UHD Smart Android TV for $ 400. I don’t remember ever seeing such a low price on such a big TV.

Interestingly, this is not one of the elements of Best Buy Day-Only Flash Sale, what is happening right now. It is, however, an interesting addition to our list of the best Black Friday TV deals. In this list, you’ll also see an upcoming 70-inch LG TV at Target – but it’ll be $ 550. Worth the extra $ 150? Hard to say.

LG’s model relies on a proprietary smart-TV operating system, while the Hisense incorporates Recently updated Android TV (soon to be known as Google TV). Neither is better than CNET’s long-favorite Roku for a long time, but is the job done, on the apps side? For sure. (That said, see how you can turn that into a cheap Roku TV below.)

Another unknown: the image quality. Will a $ 400 Hisense compete with a $ 550 LG? Probably not. Will it compete even with a TCL, our budget brand? Again, hard to say.

What you’ll probably get here is a decent HDR enhanced picture that’s good for everyday viewing. Indeed, as I discussed with CNET TV guru David Katzmaier in a recent episode of the Cheapskate Show podcast (see below), not everyone cares about having perfect black levels or gradation. local. Sometimes size matters more.

And here’s a quick tip: Best Buy is a retail store. If you don’t like the TV, you have until January 16, 2021 to return it. (This is a specially extended return period.)

Is it possible to see an even better deal on a 70 inch TV this month? May be. But a big TV in your hand is worth, uh, something to do with bushes, I guess?

Tell me what you think.

Have you decided that you are not crazy about the user interface of Android TV? Or, for that matter, Amazon’s Fire TV? Just because a TV has an operating system built in doesn’t mean you have to stick with it. Just plug in your streamer of your choice.

Like this: For a limited time, Amazon offers the Roku Premiere for $ 29. It’s a few bucks more than the top Prime Day deal, but it’s still a $ 11 discount and a great buy overall.

The Roku Premiere offers all of the important benefits to pairing with a TV like the Hisense – namely 4K and HDR. However, you will lose the voice command option; if you want that, look The Roku Ultra LT, currently on sale for $ 48 at Walmart.

CNET hasn’t reviewed this version of Roku Premiere (check out the Premiere Plus live review, which covers most of the important details), but make no mistake: this is an excellent streamer that stands out for its simplicity and versatility. (Also: peacock!)
