Ice-T says the new season of “Law & Order: SVU” lives up to its “ripped from the headlines” slogan, as it reflects all of the policing issues so hotly debated this year.
Ice came to “TMZ Live” on Wednesday to talk about the 22nd season premiere this week, and told us much of what her character, Detective Tutuola, is going through – not to mention. Mariska Hargitay like Detective Benson – it’s like looking in a mirror at the American soul.
Shootings involving the police, systemic racism and even the coronavirus pandemic … they’re all part of the new plots. So, yeah … definitely an art mimicking the kind of life contract that Ice-T really enjoys.
He says he’s proud to be on a show – since 2000, BTW – that isn’t afraid to tackle these difficult topics. He gives Dick wolf and the rest of the major props team to keep the show relevant and up to date.
Ice also spoke of the state of affairs in our country on these issues – telling us that he sees this new generation as following in the footsteps of great activists before them.
He finds it bizarre that after all these years, we’re still facing the same issues he faced 30 years ago – but Ice says he’s optimistic that real change will happen.
