Whooooo is this? ‘Masked Singer’ snow owls revealed as married lovebirds

While the Country Music Association Awards were controversial on ABC Network Wednesday despite a few coronavirus scares, on Fox there was much more responsible and totally obscured competition, The masked singer, between a famous couple from Nashville and a former country star. The latter, the Sun, is (spoiler alert!) most likely LeAnn Rimes. But more on her later. But we make know for sure after this week’s Group A finale that the eliminated Snow Owls are 1990 Country Music Association Vocalist of the Year Clint Black and his wife of 29 years, actress / singer Lisa Hartman Black.

The first duo to participate Masked singer story, the Hartmans rang exquisitely on “The Prayer” and later during what host Nick Cannon called the series’ first “love ballad” against the Popcorn on “Because You Me. I liked. But in the end, their gimmicky (yes, even gimmicky by Masked singer standard) Hydra Head / Spouse Twin / Cinderella-Egg-Cart costume was too bulky, and it kept them from playing at the same level as their competition. (This was especially noticeable during the opening group number of P! Nk’s episode of “Raise Your Glass” – which allowed Popcorn and The Sun to make full use of the stage, while Clint and Lisa were stuck in their cracked egg dazzled like Derek Smalls in Spinal Tap Capsule Dysfunction.)

But Lisa had love being a Snow Owl, he told the judges, “When I first saw the costumes, I cried because they were so beautiful but also so soft. I couldn’t wait to get in. Nicole Scherzinger, the only judge to correctly guess the identity of the owls, exclaimed, “You were really at the heart of this series,” and urged them to release new music together (probably not by accident, they have just released a new single as a duet); Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg called them “the lovebirds” of The masked singer. Clint, moved by their kindness, continued this lovefest by telling the judges: “You weren’t Simon Cowell!”

Thus, the Sun and the Popcorn have qualified for the semi-finals of Season 4, where they will end up competing against the survivors of Groups B and C. Whooooo are the sun and the popcorn? It’s pretty obvious now… but let’s take a look at this week’s performance and indices, just to be sure.

The sun, “piece of my heart”

I don’t quite understand why there were S&M centaurs on stage, looking like four-legged rescue dancers from Icelandic Hatari’s performance at Eurovision Song Contest. But even this leather spectacle could not distract from the radiant voice of this sun goddess. Judge Robin Thicke was particularly impressed with her ‘sultry’ rock ‘n’ roll performance, saying she was in a ‘whole other dimension’.

The clues: The Sun’s “Sol Mate” talked about taking road trips in their RVs, and there were also Christmas-angel wind chimes, cows and a mention that the Sun recorded at least one single that was certified. gold. Clues from previous episodes have referred to children’s fame, early career burnout, “ugly rumors”, depression, “dirty feet” and Zenning in a “sanctuary.”

The judges’ assumptions: Katharine McPhee, JoJo, Jewel, Demi Lovato.

My guess: Jaded guest judge Niecey Nash didn’t think the Sun was a married woman because the Sol Mate seemed too in love to be a typical husband! (Apparently, Niecey was not as moved as the other judges by the Snow Owls ‘display of masked marital bliss mentioned above.) But I’m sure the Sol Mate was LeAnn Rimes’ still-loving husband and Northern Lights Holiday movie co-star Eddie Cibrian – and so the sun is LeAnn. The country crossover singer is passionate about VR; his first single “Blue” went gold; she released her first album at 13; she’s been tabloid fodder for years; and she was going to release an album inspired by her meditation practice, SONG: The Human and the Saint. This prospect is as clear as a sunny day.

The popcorn, “Domino”

Jessie J’s songs are do not easy to sing, but the Popcorn blew it up and totally pulled it off. Robin was shocked to hear a new dimension to his voice, in an entirely higher register, panting, “You just flipped the script” and admitting that he was suddenly more confused than ever. But after this week’s packet of clues I felt Less confused and 100% safe in my opinion.

The clues: Popcorn’s best friend is a ‘queen’ famous for her karaoke nights, and she’s actually been on The masked singer himself. We also saw a Russian doll and a stuffed deer. Past clues have included a hair clip, hoops, a Rubik’s Cube, a rainbow flag, and mentions of overcoming a “serious anxiety” and a “bizarre condition.”

The judges’ assumptions: Taylor Dayne, Cyndi Lauper, Anita Baker, Anika Noni Rose.

My guesses: I guessed within weeks that it was Taylor Dayne, who struggled with anxiety, agoraphobia, and bulimia; is an 80’s lady and a fierce ally of LGBTQ +; and has been known to rock some seriously frizzy hair. But the BFF index sealed the deal: Taylor’s best is King of queens star, obsessive karaoke, and only once Masked singer guest judge Leah Remini. In addition, Taylor made her debut as a singer at a Russian nightclub. So all of these clues tell my heart that it’s her.
