The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked royal fans around the world when they announced their resignation as members of the Royal Family earlier this year. They quickly set up a new life in Los Angeles with their son Archie, where they once supported local charities in California. The couple also spoke to young Commonwealth leaders earlier this year, where Harry brought up the subject of the Commonwealth’s colonial background.
Their move to Los Angeles came just months before the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, declares that the Caribbean island wants “full sovereignty” as it celebrates its 55th anniversary of independence from the Kingdom. United in November 2021.
The Telegraph’s Associate Editor-in-Chief Camilla Tominey claimed that Harry and Meghan missed Prince William and Kate this year for helping ‘share the burden’.
She added that Harry could have helped “charm the Caribbean” if he was still a senior royal.
She said: “In order to be fully modern parents who want to run the school and yet at the same time, Kate and William are increasingly in demand for royal duties and more and more because that Harry and Meghan are no longer on the scene to share the burden.
“The other issue for the Cambridges during the Covid era is the feeling that they can’t continue some of their charm offensives overseas.
“The lack of overseas travel is particularly problematic at the moment and we have Commonwealth kingdoms like Barbados flirting with the idea of republicanism.
“Normally the reaction to this kind of political maneuver would be to send Prince Harry to charm the Caribbean, but you can’t do that right now because no one is traveling anywhere.
“Prince William made connections with footballers because of his campaign on mental health and the connection with David Attenborough, it’s really impactful and it makes the headlines, these kinds of pictures are all good. publicity.”

In September, the Governor General of Barbados, Dame Sandra Mason, said: “The time has come to put our colonial past completely behind us.”
She added: “Barbadians want a Barbadian head of state.
“It’s the ultimate statement of confidence in who we are and what we are capable of accomplishing.
“Therefore, Barbados will take the next logical step towards full sovereignty and become a republic as we celebrate our 55th anniversary of independence.”
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness has also said it is a priority for his government, but no plan has been made yet.
During this time, Harry also acknowledged the colonial past of the Commonwealth.
He said: “When you look across the Commonwealth, there is no way we can move forward without acknowledging the past.
“So many people have done an incredible job acknowledging the past and trying to right these wrongs, but I think we all recognize that there is still a long way to go.
