GOP sen. says he will intervene if Biden is not informed of the intelligence

Republican Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma has said he will step in if President Donald Trump’s administration does not grant President-elect Joe Biden access to daily presidential intelligence briefings by Friday .

“There is no loss for him to have the briefings and to be able to do it, and if that doesn’t happen by Friday, I will step in too, and to be able to push and to say it has to happen so that regardless of the outcome of the election … people can be ready for this real job, ”Lankford told Oklahoma radio station KRMG.

Trump refused to concede this election and falsely alleged electoral fraud. His refusal to recognize Biden as president-elect has meant Biden’s transition team is behind on several privileges granted to incoming presidents, including the president’s daily briefing, which contains important classified information on national security .

NBC News reported that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said Biden still did not have access to these briefings because the projected election results had not been recognized by the General Service administration.

Emily Murphy, head of the GSA and nominated by Trump, has to acknowledge Biden’s victory and has yet to do so. Additionally, very few GOP lawmakers have recognized Biden as president-elect.

Lankford also added that Vice President-elect Kamala Harris already had clearances as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. He also said that a bipartisan report on 9/11 showed that a shortened transition in 2000 contributed to a lack of security preparedness before the attacks, CNN reported.

“There is nothing wrong with Vice President Biden receiving the briefings so he can prepare and be ready – the President already has them,” Lankford said.
