If there’s one thing the Buffalo Bills learned about the defensive tackle Jordan phillips during his tenure at Orchard Park, that’s how he feels about his former teams.
The Dolphins’ second-round pick, Miami cut Phillips in 2018 and the Bills claimed it. Phillips had a few issues with his coaching staff at the time and every time the Bills and Dolphins faced off after that, Phillips played with additional equipment.
Having seen this firsthand, the Buffalo head coach Sean mcdermott Wednesday admitted he plans to make the most of the 28-year-old in Week 10 when the Bills visit the Arizona Cardinals.
“Very, very talented player. We’re sorry to see him go, ”McDermott said. “It’s good to see things work out for a player who has come here and been able to improve things for his family and his life.”
“A lot of respect and appreciation for Jordan. He’s going to play… he’s still behaving very well against his old teams, I’m sure he will be very motivated. It will also be a big challenge for us. McDermott added.
But that’s if Phillips plays too. On Wednesday afternoon, the defender was not training with his team. He played in week 9 but previously had a hamstring problem. It remains to be seen how he progresses throughout this week.
Assuming Phillips comes onto the pitch, by comparison, he actually doesn’t have the kind of “bad blood” towards the Bills like he does towards the Dolphins. A little positive for the bills this week.
After his half-season start with Buffalo in 2018, Phillips re-signed with the Bills via a one-year contract. He bet on himself in Buffalo and took advantage of this offseason, signing a three-year, $ 30 million contract in Arizona.
Sure, Phillips could be motivated to show he was worth it, but there’s no hate. On last season’s locker clean-up day, Phillips said he was ready to return to the Bills, but of course there was the business side that drove him to the cards.
After signing with the Cardinals, he even tilted his cap at the bills.
“I had lots of opportunities to get more bags and be more productive. Buffalo did a really good job using my talents and they reaped the rewards last year, ”Phillips said in April. “Arizona was somewhere if it didn’t work with Buffalo that… Arizona would be a place to be. It’s a young and talented team, a bit like Buffalo.
