Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G will support S Pen, but there’s a catch

The S Pen has been the defining feature of the Galaxy Note series since its introduction in 2011. But ten years later, it seems Samsung plans to expand its reach soon.

Galaxy S21 Ultra won’t include the S Pen, but will support it

Leak Renderings of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra have belied recent rumors of a built-in S Pen, but that doesn’t mean the popular stylus won’t be supported in any way on the 2021 flagship. Ice universe announced that he is now “ 100% ” confident that Samsung will offer S Pen support on the next Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G unveiled in two months. Samsung is said to have removed the AC adapter from Galaxy S21 cases, so the S Pen is even less likely to make the cut. Instead, the company will likely offer the stylus as a separate purchase to those interested.

It could also announce specially designed cases to hold the S Pen. After all, without a dedicated slot on the next-gen smartphone, losing the well-rated stylus will be much, much easier.

The only thing that remains uncertain at this point is whether the supported S Pen is the same as the one offered on the Galaxy Note 20 series, a slightly updated version, or maybe even the one that will be included on the Galaxy Note 21.

What else will the Galaxy S21 Ultra offer?

According to the most recent leaks, Samsung has decided to outfit the Galaxy S21 Ultra with a massive 6.9-inch AMOLED display offering 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The latter will be paired with the LTPO technology, which means that it will adjust the refresh rate according to the content displayed and ultimately save battery.

Android makers, including Samsung, are notorious for choosing ridiculously thin side bezels and thicker chins. With the Galaxy S21 Ultra, that changes, as it is expected to offer uniform bezels called ‘Blade Bezels’.

Meanwhile, seated in the back will be a next-gen 108-megapixel main camera. The Isocell HM1 sensor is present on the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra, but the Galaxy S21 Ultra will make the jump to an Isocell HM3 sensor.

This would all be paired with a massive 5,000mAh battery, support for 45W fast charging, and the next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 or Exynos chipset. A minimum of 256 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM is also extremely likely.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra announced, pre-orders, release date

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will be unveiled at the next Unpacked event, which is set to take place on January 14, 2021. Pre-orders in the US will begin on the same day, and the same could happen in Europe.

In terms of the actual release date, shipments for the entire Galaxy S21 series are slated to begin on January 29, 2021. This is by far the oldest launch date of a flagship Galaxy S line in history.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra, just like the Galaxy S20 Ultra, will only be available in black and silver. Samsung saves its more adventurous colorways like pink and purple for the cheaper flagship models.
