Orchard Park, NY – An emotional Josh Allen celebrated with his teammates in the Buffalo Bills locker room after his team claimed the biggest win of the season against the Seattle Seahawks.
Allen called his parents, Joel and Lavonne Allen, shortly after, to talk about his grandmother, Patricia Allen, 80, who died the day before in California. The whole family gathered on Sunday to watch Allen throw 415 yards and three touchdowns, a performance that earned him the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Like any great leader, 24-year-old Allen, who struggled with heartbreak throughout his Grammy-winning game, came forward for his team because that’s what Patricia wanted. She never missed any of Josh’s games on her way back to high school. She has even managed to catch a few Bills games over the years and has become a huge Bills fan.
Later Sunday evening, Allen was informed that hundreds of Bills fans had started donating money in honor of his grandmother at Oishei Children’s Hospital. Allen works with the hospital to help raise funds to help sick children. He also spends his time there meeting sick children.

When Bills fans put two and two together, the money started pouring in – in $ 17 increments of course.
Allen said “holy shit” when he saw that the donation had reached $ 5,000. Since then, the total donation has increased to $ 315,000.

Words cannot describe how grateful Allen and his family are to Bills Mafia for their support, he said.
“Every time I call my parents and let them know the new number, they start bawling again,” Allen said. “It just shows how this community of Bills and this community of Buffalo come together. … It’s overwhelming for sure. But so much good comes out of a situation so difficult that you can’t help but smile. And it is amazing.
Allen, who led the Bills to a 7-2 record and led the AFC East in nine games this season, said he wished he could have been with his family to hug everyone on Sunday . But he was also happy to have played the game in honor of his grandmother.
“My parents, they didn’t really want to tell me. They didn’t want to overwhelm me with a heavy heart before a game, ”he said. “But to go and play for her, I don’t think it could have been a better tribute. I called my family right after the game and started bawling and they were crying too. But they both said she has the best seat in the house, she and daddy do. It was quite surreal. It was a special moment for me and my family.
Few of Allen’s teammates knew what their quarterback was playing on Sunday. Star wide receiver Stefon Diggs said he only found out what happened after the game.
Diggs called Allen a true leader.
“He’s everything you would want in a quarterback when it comes to leading a guy and leading his troops. You try not to let things in your personal life play a huge role in your football life because you don’t want it to bother you, ”said Diggs. “He took a moment to put his feelings aside and put his team first, and you have to respect him – you have to love him for that.” Few guys could have done that.
The truth was, the Bills needed Allen if they were to stand a chance against the Seahawks, who entered the game 6-1. It was expected to be a shootout and that’s exactly how it turned out. Buffalo won 44-34, and Diggs said Allen had stepped up into a huge moment.
Diggs only played nine games as a member of the Bills, and fans were not allowed into Bills Stadium for any of the home games. Even without being in the building with them yet, Diggs can’t help but notice the strength and support of Bills Mafia.
“One of a kind. Nothing else to describe it,” he said. “What they do as far as the community is concerned and how they support us as a family, as a real family. It’s amazing. I’m not really completely Bills Mafia. I haven’t spent a lot of time with them in the stadium. So hopefully we can make this family thing work soon.
As for Allen, he will be remembered from his Grammy as the “sweetest, kindest woman you’ve ever met.” Not a single nasty bone in his body.
Allen is going to enjoy the memories he has of his grandmother and added that he was looking forward to creating more with Bills fans.
“I know my family is forever engraved here and myself included. Obviously I never want to leave, ”he said. “I want to play here as long as possible, give back to the community, and give back to Bills Mafia here.”
