Who would have thought that a little wink could spark such a big debate?

In the blink of an eye (literally), Carrie Underwood Twitter rocked Twitter for a momentous moment at the 2020 CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 11. Here is what happened: Eric Church, Luke combs, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban and Underwood were all nominated for Artist of the Year. Hosts Reba McEntire and Darius rucker then named Church the winner.

As Underwood and her fellow nominees smiled and gave Church a standing ovation upon hearing the news, fans couldn’t help but notice that she had also winked a little. But who was it for and what did it mean?

Some believe the gesture was aimed at the Church. “Eric Church moved by winning EOTY and Carrie winking at him in tears is such a busy and fascinating TV moment,” a viewer tweeted. “Congratulations to the chef!”

Others, however, were not convinced. “Do you think she was winking at him?” asked another. “Still in debate.”
