Who is the traitor in The Stench of Treachery?
There are three people you can accuse of betraying Soma, and these are his three closest allies; Birna, Lif and Galinn. There are reasons to suspect each of them, but only one is the true traitor.
If you don’t care about becoming Sherlock Holmes for a short while, then you should know the the traitor is Galinn. Blaming Galinn ends up in a cutscene where Soma slashes her throat, but she’s ultimately grateful that you’ve found the traitor. Since you have the right suspect, Birna will also ask to join your camp in Ravensthorpe, so you can add her to your raid team.
You can find out for yourself by interviewing each of the three suspects, where you find out that Lif has had his yellow paint stolen. Walk down the escape tunnel that Soma dug inside the longhouse, and you’ll find drops of yellow paint everywhere, to a cove where the invaders left their boats.
Go northwest from here to the Fens, where you’ll eventually come across some ambush ships. Lif has poetry inscribed on the side of each ship, so you can browse them and find Galinn’s ship, which – surprise, surprise – has yellow paint on it.
Finding the ships is the hardest part of this quest, although personally Galinn seemed the most suspicious at first. Congratulations if you have managed to solve all the mystery yourself and commiserate whether you have accused Birna or Lif!
