Bob Bowlsby, Commissioner of the Big 12, said Sirius XM Radio Thursday, that there were talks about postponing the college football playoffs and the Six New Year’s Bowls due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m on the CFP operations committee and we’ve spent some time talking about it,” Bowlsby said. “We haven’t come to any close on this, but there is some leeway to postpone it should that need arise.

“The same is true for some of the six New Years games,” he added. “I don’t know if I see us playing a league game in February, but you never know. These are unusual times, and things that otherwise would not be acceptable have to be considered in these kinds of circumstances.”

As the SEC continues to navigate a tumultuous week in which four games were postponed in three days, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey was asked on Wednesday about the possibility of postponing the playoffs and told reporters : “We have finish lines right now.”

“The semi-finals take place [January] first, “Sankey said.” The championship is on the 11th. The reality is if you walk to the back of my building there’s a sign that says be flexible.

“I’m not going to make assumptions about change,” Sankey added, “but I’m not oblivious to the potential that change may need to occur at different levels.”

The 13 members of the CFP selection committee are expected to publish their first ranking on November 24 and their final ranking on December 20.
