Next year’s iPhones could have smaller batteries, thanks to the use of a new technology known as flexible board batteries.

Jialianyi is expected to get around 40-50% of iPhone 13 and 13 mini battery soft card orders. We predict that the iPhone 13 will be the first iPhone model to adopt the flexible battery card technology, which will help save internal space and lower costs.
Suppliers of soft and hard battery versions for iPhone 12 series include Xinxing, Huatong, Yaohua and TTM, and soft battery card suppliers for iPhone 13 series are replaced by Jialianyi, Xinxing and Huatong.
We believe that the number of battery panels for iPhone 13 series is reduced due to the reduced number of suppliers, which will benefit the long term profits of the suppliers. As a new entrant, Jialianyi is the biggest beneficiary of the move from the iPhone 13 series to flexible battery card design.
Softboard batteries have fewer layers than existing batteries, which means Apple could either increase capacity in the same space or make phones thinner by maintaining capacity through thinner batteries. Unfortunately, experience suggests that Apple will favor a slimmer design over longer battery life.
The news closely follows a report suggesting that next year’s iPhones will also use more power-efficient displays.
The 2021 iPhone’s display can consume 10-20% less power than the iPhone 12, thanks to more power-efficient technology, according to a new report released today. There’s even an outdoor possibility of some kind of always-on display on next year’s iPhones.
Kuo also reiterates previous predictions that we will see the first iPad with a mini LED display in the first half of next year and that the same timeline will see the launch of third generation AirPods with a design similar to the current one. AirPods Pro.
The mini LED is a more sophisticated form of backlighting for LCD displays, which offers many of the same benefits of OLED: increased brightness, deeper blacks, higher contrast ratio, and better power efficiency. But it’s also better than OLED in several ways, with greater longevity and lower risk of burns. We expect Apple to use this technology in many Macs and iPads next year.
