The Seattle Seahawks have had a ton of issues trying to deal with Aaron Donald over the years. They may have to try and slow it down on Sunday without their starting cross in the lineup.
Ethan Pocic missed a second day of practice Thursday with a concussion that surfaced from last weekend’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Pocic played all 65 offensive shots for the team in the 44-34 loss to the Bills.
Unable to train on Thursday, Pocic appears to have run out of time to complete the various progressions required in the league’s concussion protocol in order to return to action this week. If Pocic is out, the job would be to back Kyle Fuller to manage Donald and the rest of the Rams’ defensive front.
“If Ethan isn’t playing, Kyle Fuller is a guy we trust a lot. I thought he had an amazing training camp. Probably one of the most improved players we have had, ”said offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer after Thursday practice.
Fuller missed the first two games of the season while suspended for violating NFL drug addiction policy. He was then inactive for several games as BJ Finney served as a backup center before being transferred to the Cincinnati Bengals as part of the trade that brought Carlos Dunlap to Seattle three weeks ago.
Fuller spent most of last season on the Seattle practice squad and didn’t play in a game last year. He has played 13 career games for Seattle, the Washington football team and the Houston Texans with two starts for Houston in 2017.
“I don’t necessarily know that situation or that scenario, but I know Kyle is ready. He was prepared. He had an incredible training camp. He’s been doing good since he came here. He’s extremely smart, played ball a lot in college. So I feel extremely confident in him as well, ”quarterback Russell Wilson said of Fuller. “He’s an extremely athletic, extremely intelligent guy. He’s a wizard when it comes to the way he takes information. He’s really special about it. I can’t wait for Kyle to intervene if this is the case.
Seattle could have backups from center and left guard. Jordan Simmons has served as the ranger starter for the past few weeks in place of Mike Iupati, who is recovering from a back injury that left him unavailable. While Simmons has played well, Donald is one of the best defensive talents in the NFL. The Seahawks will have their hands full to keep Donald away from Wilson this weekend.
“I think he’s the best of the game and the best defensive lineman I’ve faced,” said left tackle Duane Brown. “He’s got a unique combination of quickness, speed, power, good instincts, lots of movement, just great feel for the game. Someone you need to plan your match for, you need to know where they are.
