Last year, the man behind one of New deep spacethe most fascinating characters of Ferengi, a Ferengi delinquent who became war wounded Starfleet Nog Officer—Aron Eisenberg, sadly passed away at 50 years old. This week’s episode of Discovery, “Die trying, opens with our time-worn crew – who have immersed themselves in the 32nd century at the peak of the second season – arrive at what remains of Starfleet and the Federation’s main base of operations following a cataclysmic disaster known as Burn. It’s the first time this season, we got to really get a glimpse of what a 32nd century Federation’s starships are –the farthest point we have been in the main series of the Star Trek timeline – look like.

But among all the cool new tech (Ddetachable carrycots! Programmable material!) And funny screams like eleventh model of the USS Traveler, in the blink of an eye and you will miss it, one of the new Starfleet ships Discovery flies en route to Federation HQ has a short, simple, and touching name: the USS Again.

It’s a tiny moment, but meaningful for what it means Star Trekits own tradition. After all, Nog made history as Starfleet’s first Ferengi, frontline with one of Starfleet’s most vital crews on DS9 and the Of challenge during the Dominion War. He’s not just an example of what a Ferengi can do to overcome the prejudices their species faced, even from an enlightened society like the Federation’s, but a Starfleet hero.

It is just that 800 years after the events of New deep space, his name is honorable enough to be put alongside people like Business and Traveler how worth remembering in the vanguard of Starfleet. What a great way to honor the memory of Eisenberg.
