In just over a year, the world received 91 episodes of Black wing duck. The animated action series originally aired weekday afternoons on The Disney Channel from September 1991 through December 1992. (The episodes also aired Saturday mornings on ABC for those of us who have grew up without cable.) In many ways, Black wing duck was a parody ahead of its time, with a central hero who has more in common with the super egocentrics on The boys than with the altruistic heroes of classic comics. “Black wing duck cut through all the existential and dramatic bullshit with a character who rarely claimed to invest in the safety of his hometown or the world at large, ”our Kevin Johnson wrote in celebrate Dark wing25th anniversary in 2016. Apparently, the powers that be at Disney + have decided that the series is also appropriate for our present times – adding it first to the streaming service’s library, and now restarting it with help from Seth Rogen.
Rogen is ready to produce a reboot of Black wing duck alongside Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee, Variety reports. The project is in “early development,” but if it goes into series, it will only be the latest in a series of Disney + titles building on well-established fan bases, including Star wars, High school music, Doogie Howser MD, and willow. And maybe we’re worried about ruining a good thing for nothing, Disney has successfully rebooted Duck tales in 2017 with a witty series which is currently in its third season. But you can’t fault us for being a little wary of what they’re going to do with Darkwing Duck / Drake Mallard, Launchpad McQuack, and Gosalyn.
No word on how long it will take before (or if) we see this new Darkwing Duck on Disney +, but a Darwking/Ducktails the crossover could be fun. Okay, maybe we’ve been convinced it’s a good idea. May be
