NFC East Ratings: Eberflus, Eagles, Giants

Matt Eberflus could resurface on the coaching carousel in 2021, given the Colts’ defensive resurgence. This is Eberflus ‘third year as the Colts’ defensive coordinator, with the candidate Josh mcdaniels attending Indianapolis after seven seasons as Cowboys linebacker coach. The Cowboys were ready to make a major change to prevent Eberflus from leaving. They were ready to promote him to defensive coordinator in 2018, reports ESPN.com’s Ed Werder, in a move that would have meant replacing Eberflus Rod Marinelli (Twitter link). Eberflus, however, refused to accept this promotion out of respect for Marinelli. The latter served as Dallas DC from 2014-19, his tenure ending after Jason garrettThe shooting of 2020.

• For the first time since week 14 of last season, Alshon jeffery will be suitable for a match. the Eagles didn’t give Jeffery an injury designation until Week 10, putting the ninth-year player on track to make his season debut against the Giants. The Eagles bought Jeffery for several months, but given the injury-prone receiver’s contract, the team were essentially forced to hang on to the 30-year-old target and wait for his recovery from an injury at Lisfranc. Jeffery has also battled calf disease this season. Jeffery will join previously injured cogs Jalen reagor, Miles sanders and Dallas goedert in the Philadelphia range. It’ll easily be the Eagles’ healthiest skill pool this season.
• the giants disabled Golden Tate for their Week 9 game, citing his recent efforts and performances. They bought Tate before the trade deadline and Tate’s wife expressed frustration with her husband’s role on Instagram. Tate liked another Instagram post defending a change of scenery for him. The 11th-year wide receiver, however, said on Friday he didn’t want to be traded. “No I wouldn’t say that I was trying to be tradedTate said, via the New York Post’s Paul Schwartz (on Twitter). “I love this organization, to be honest. I love everything he stands for, and I want to do my part and help us win in any way I can.. Giving up Tate would cost the Giants a few million dead money, but the team are expected to cut or trade him in 2021.
• Patrick graham has impressed a lot of people in the NFL with his work as the Giants’ defense leader this season, notes Tom Pelissero of NFL.com. The former assistant to the DC Dolphins and Patriots may soon be getting searched for HC opportunities. While the Giants’ defense sits at 22nd place in DVOA, it’s an increase from 28th last season. New York entered the season slim at the corner and on the edge of the run, but still have one of the best defensive lines in the league.
• The Giants worked on two former second-round cornerback picks on Friday. Former Florida teammates Quincy Wilson and Teez Tabor gathered for a Giants workout. The Jets acquired Wilson from the Colts earlier this year but cut him. Tabor hasn’t played since the 2018 season.
• the Eagles will be without defensive assistant Jeremiah Washburn this week, ESPN.com’s Tim McManus tweets. An Eagles coach tested positive for COVID-19 this week. The team did not identify the staff member, but Washburn’s absence indicates he has contracted the coronavirus. Washburn plays an interesting role with the Eagles, as a senior defensive assistant and director of player personnel. He previously coached the Bears and Lions offensive lines.
