The New York Police Department is investigating a video showing a man standing on top of a city bus with a flamethrower while throwing flames into the air and onto the street in front of a cheering crowd of spectators.
Images posted on social media appear to show a shirtless man standing on top of the B26 bus while shooting in the air as passers-by push him and film him on their cellphones. At one point, he appears to be pulling onto the street near pedestrians.
He then jumps off the bus and walks around with the flamethrower. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority told Fox News.
“We are aware of the video and it is under investigation by the 79th Detective Squad in the neighborhood,” the NYPD said in a statement to Fox News.

The ministry did not respond to other questions related to the incident.
The stunt was part of a Wu-Tang tribute music video by local rapper Dupree GOD, according to the New York Post. He did not respond to a Fox News request for comment.

No permit was issued for the filming. None of the 25 passengers on the bus were injured and they were transferred to another bus at the next stop, the MTA said.
Other posts on the rapper’s Twitter page show him playing with flamethrowers.
The Benevolent Sergeants’ Association, which represents the department’s 13,000 active and retired police sergeants, tweeted the video of the bus before taking it apart.
“MUST WATCH video – Man with FLAMETHROWER stands on top of New York bus and shoots audience,” the union wrote. “NYC is NOT safe, we are lying to you. Keep defunding the police, it will become rampant. @NYCMayor @BilldeBlasio @NYDailyNews @realDonaldTrump.”
New York City Police Unions have frequently criticized local leaders over the city’s spike in crime in recent months and for endorsing policies some believe encourage criminals.
In a subsequent tweet about the flamethrower incident, the SBA wrote, “I wonder which social worker wants to talk to her?”
Last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio unveiled a new initiative in two high crime areas where social workers and paramedics will answer 911 calls for mental health instead of police officers.
“One in five New Yorkers has a mental health problem. Now more than ever we must do all we can to reach these people before the crisis hits, ”de Blasio said in a statement. “For the first time in our city’s history, healthcare providers will be the default responders for a person in crisis, ensuring those suffering from mental illness get the help they need.

This decision comes in a national context of recognition of police practices which have seen movements of embezzlement of police funds to support social programs gain momentum among progressive elected officials in several cities.
