TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY – The most recent potential public exposure alert from the Tompkins County Health Department comes from BJ’s Wholesale Club in Ithaca, where an employee has worked five times in the past 10 days and could potentially have exposed the public to coronavirus.
The person who tested positive is in isolation and close contacts have been identified and are in quarantine.

- Tuesday, November 10, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 11, 1:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.
- Friday, November 13, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
- Saturday November 14, 1:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.
- Sunday, November 15, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
“Anyone who may have been at BJ during these times should order a test and watch themselves closely for symptoms,” said Director of Public Health Frank Kruppa. “To reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19, we remind everyone to continue to wear a mask, stay six feet apart, and think about the density when you go out. “
BJ’s is also implementing additional security measures, including full store sanitation overnight, hourly cleaning checklists, mask requirements, and social distancing measures.
For those who were with the BJs in Ithaca at this time, the instructions from the Department of Health are as follows:
- It is recommended that you get tested at the Cayuga Health Sample Site located in The Shops at Ithaca Mall parking lot, 40 Catherwood Rd. Sign up for an appointment online at cayugahealthsystem.org or call the center. ‘Cayuga Health calls at 607-319-5708. Normal hours for the sample site and call center are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. The sampling site will be open this Saturday November 21 and Sunday November 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Monitor your health for any symptoms of cough, fever, congestion and shortness of breath for 14 days from the last time you were at this restaurant. For a full list of symptoms, visit the TCHD website.
- If you are looking for a test and the result is negative, continue to monitor your health for the full 14 days from the last time you were in this store. If you become symptomatic, repeat the test.
- If potentially exposed, Cornell University students should contact Cornell Health at 607-255-5155; do not go at an arrival test or surveillance site.
- All other students and community members should research tests at the Cayuga Health Sampling Site.
