Kyle Rittenhouse, the Illinois teenager accused of shooting and killing two protesters in Kenosha, Wis., Was released from Kenosha County jail on Monday after posting $ 2 million bail, according to the authorities.

Rittenhouse’s bail was posted at 2 p.m. Friday, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office.

In a tweet Friday, Rittenhouse attorney Lin Wood said, “God bless ALL who have donated to help raise #FightBack have required a $ 2 million cash bond.”

Wood also praised actor Ricky Schroder and Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow for “putting us on top.”

Later that evening, Wood tweeted a photo of Rittenhouse alongside John Pierce, another lawyer who represents the teenager, and Schroder.

“Thank you to all the donors. Thank you to all the patriots. Thank you to Almighty God,” the tweet read.

Kenosha County prosecutors had accused Rittenhouse of Antioch, Illinois, of killing Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber during a protest against a police shooting in August. They also accused him of injuring a third man, Gaige Grosskreutz.

Rittenhouse faces several counts, including intentional homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. His lawyers say he was acting in self-defense. The case was a rallying point for conservatives upset by the destruction of property during protests across the country this year.

Rittenhouse surrendered to Antioch Police the morning after the shooting. He was then extradited to Wisconsin and his bail was set at $ 2 million.

Prosecutors accused Dominick Black, 19, of Kenosha, of providing the weapon used in the shooting.

In video obtained from the Antioch Police Department, Black told police what Rittenhouse allegedly told him on the ride after the shooting.

Black told police Rittenhouse said he shot because people were attacking him and going to kill him.

“He said with a skateboard and then pieces of wood,” Black said.

The 17-year-old’s sister, Faith, was in the same police station just hours after the shooting.

“He was crying, he said I had to shoot,” she said.

Rittenhouse spoke publicly in his first interview since his arrest earlier this week.

In a phone interview with the Washington Post, Rittenhouse revealed that the gun he used in the shooting was purchased with money he received from an unemployment check during the coronavirus pandemic. Rittenhouse, 17, couldn’t legally buy the gun himself, so he gave the money to a friend to buy it for him, according to Rittenhouse and police reports.

“I got my $ 1,200 from Illinois coronavirus unemployment, because I was on YMCA leave, and I got my first unemployment check, so I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to use this to buy it, ”he told The Post.

In his interview, Rittenhouse said he didn’t regret having a gun that night, saying “I had to protect myself”.

“I would have died that night if I hadn’t,” he says.

NBC 5 reached out to lawyers for Rittenhouse on Friday night, as well as actor Ricky Schroder, but we have yet to receive a response.
