Christian Wood joins Rockets in 3-year, $ 41million deal, sources say

Center forward / forward Christian Wood has struck a three-year, $ 41 million deal with the Houston Rockets, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal is expected to be signed and traded through the Detroit Pistons, a source said.

Wood, 25, exploded onto the stage for Detroit after becoming a full-time starter after Andre Drummond’s trade. As of February 3, Wood averaged 22.3 points and 9.5 rebounds in 34.1 minutes per game, shooting 56% from the field and 41% from a distance of 3 points.

An undrafted UNLV rookie, Wood rebounded in the league until the Pistons signed him off last season.

While Wood initially struggled to find minutes behind Blake Griffin and Drummond, he almost always had a positive impact.

The Pistons were 10.4 points per 100 possessions better when Wood was on the ground and had a similar net efficiency rating as the Nuggets, Thunder and Pacers. When he sat down, Detroit’s rating dropped to a little better than the worst warriors in the league.

The 6ft 10in fat man can cause damage rolling over the rim or coming out behind the 3 point line. He’s no slouch at the other end of the field either, averaging 1.5 blocks and 0.9 steals per 36 minutes last season.
