The Chicago Aviation Department plans to implement COVID-19 testing for travelers and employees at Midway and O’Hare international airports, the department said.

In a press release on Friday, CDA outlined its requests for proposals from vendors hoping to provide testing services at both airports. The “successful bidder,” the ministry said, will be able to provide both PCR and rapid testing and will have the ability to begin testing before the start of the December holiday season.

On Tuesday, an in-car COVID test site will be established in Midway and will be available to the community as well as to travelers and airport employees. In addition, the airport is looking to build a second site without a lift inside the facility.

Negative coronavirus tests are required to travel to many international destinations.

O’Hare will feature a pre-security walk-in site in the terminal area as well as a drive-through test site in a secluded parking lot, according to the ADC.

All sites will be restricted to employees and flyers with the exception of the drive-thru test facility at Midway. For the remaining three locations, users will need to show proof of flight or proof of employment at the airport.

The deadline for suppliers to submit their bids is November 30 at 9 a.m. The winner will be notified the same day, officials said.
