Derrick Favors felt his phone buzzing. He looked at the screen and saw that it was Utah Jazz. He responded to his scheduled free agency meeting with the team he has spent most of his career with and listened to. On the other side were Jazz vice president Dennis Lindsey, head coach Quin Snyder and general manager Justin Zanik.
Favors enjoyed his time with the New Orleans Pelicans. He was traded there by the Jazz in the summer of 2019, when Utah embarked on a free agency frenzy that included signing Bojan Bogdanovic and trading for point guard Mike Conley. He fits in well in New Orleans, as a floor starter and as a senior veteran in a youth locker room. At the same time, Favors missed the Jazz. He missed the relationships he forged for nearly a decade. He failed to be coached by Snyder, who had earned his respect and trust.
