Florida Police have released body camera footage of a shooting involving an officer that left an 18-year-old black man dead after the medical examiner discovered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“This matter continues to be investigated,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The medical examiner’s office did not clarify whether Devon Tilman Gregory died from the self-inflicted injury or from one of the dozens of bullets police fired at the vehicle he was occupying in the incident. Tuesday evening.

Officers say they pulled over a vehicle with three people inside because the car did not maintain a single lane, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office chief of investigations TK Waters said in a statement after the shooting .
Body camera footage shows officers approaching the vehicle and asking occupants if they have any marijuana in the car.
“Did you smoke a bit or something like that?” an officer said, explaining that he had detected the smell of marijuana and that he probably had a reason to search the vehicle.

“Is there something in the car that we need to be worried about? Do you mind if we check it out really quickly and you get on the right track? The officer said before the driver was removed from the vehicle and handcuffed while the other two passengers remained in the car.
A second officer looks into the car and sees Gregory, who appears to be smoking something, starting to reach under the seat.
Officers repeatedly tell him to stop, but Gregory continues, insisting that he search for his phone.
The exchange becomes tense, with officers shouting at Gregory, “Hey, don’t go underneath … Stop f ****** reaching!”
An officer yells at Gregory, warning him: “You are about to be shot!”
Gregory keeps asking if he can “please” get his phone and continues to reach him. At one point, it looks like he has a cell phone in his ear. Officers also remove the second passenger from the vehicle.

“Relax, man. Hey, relax. Pull your hand out from under the seat, ”said one officer, before the situation began to worsen again after several minutes.
“Shoot me!” Gregory yells at least a dozen times. “F ****** kill me!”
“Listen to me. I promise you if you raise your hand with nothing in it you won’t get hurt,” said one officer.
The 19-minute video shows an officer approaching the vehicle with a K-9 dog, as Gregory yells “Leave me! Leave me!”
Gregory puts his head between his legs and a shot is fired from inside the vehicle, as the teenager’s head pulls back.
The officers then began to shoot the vehicle several times.

Four officers remain on leave after the incident, which is standard ministry protocol.
Gregory’s family viewed the video ahead of its release Thursday, First Coast News reported.
The body-worn camera video is usually only released after a thorough investigation by the police and state attorney’s office, the outlet said.
