Nebraska Sonic Drive-In Shooting leaves 2 dead, 2 injured

Two people were killed and two others injured in a Saturday night drive-in shooting at a Nebraska Sonic, authorities said.

Officers from the Bellevue Police Department were called to the restaurant, about 14 km from Omaha, Neb., At approximately 9:23 p.m., regarding a possible bomb inside a moving truck in the parking, the police said.

The bomb squad has been dispatched, Lt. Andy Jashinske of the Bellevue Police Department said at a press conference.

He said there was a truck “and maybe fireworks or some type of device” in the restaurant parking lot. “We’re still trying to figure this out,” he said.

A minute later, the call was updated to involve a shooting. Officers found four people with gunshot wounds, police said.

Two people were taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center and two others were pronounced dead at the scene.

Details on the identity, age and conditions of the victims were not provided by police.

A suspect, Roberto Carlos Silva, 23, was quickly taken into custody, police said. He was charged with first degree murder and first degree arson.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Sonic Drive-In said the company was “stunned and saddened by what had happened” and the franchise owner was working with authorities.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the franchise owner and to the families and friends affected by this horrific tragedy,” said the spokesperson.
