In the wake of the landing of Quinn Ewers, the No.1 quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class, Ohio State added a leading receiving threat for Ewers to target as wide receiver five star Caleb Burton III announced on his Twitter account Monday that he was making a verbal commitment to the Buckeyes.

According to 247Sports, the Del Valle (Texas) High School team is a five-star rookie and top team in class 2022. The 247Sports Composite rankings rank Burton as the # 4 player in Texas and the # 15 player overall for the. cycle.

While the anticipated signing period for 2022 is still over a year away, the addition of Burton and Ewers further strengthens Ohio State with the highest recruiting class. Ewers was originally an engagement from Texas, but disengaged only in October to return to Ohio state on November 19. Burton, at 6 feet, 165 pounds, gives the Buckeyes another top Texas wide receiver, joining the likes of Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

In his Burton screening report, Gabe Brooks of 247Sports said:

Good frame potential for a typical outside receiver perspective. Flashes impressive schedule and great scoring ability on challenged free throws. Meet the ball at the top. Fits well with encouraging body control. Get out of the line quickly and at the top of the bends in a hurry. Shows impressive burst and acceleration. Dangerous in catch-and-run situations. Usually a good catcher. Good football pedigree. Long field speed adequate to above average, but can be faster at the top. Among Texas’ top prospects for Class 2022. Has potential for all conferences with a long term NFL Draft cap.

In his sophomore in 2019, Burton caught 51 passes for 882 yards and 12 touchdowns. He missed last season with a knee injury.
