Sounders vs LAFC, full-time: Seattle progresses

[ad_1]

FULL TIME: The Sounders led their home playoff winning streak to a record 13 games in MLS and advanced to the Western Conference semifinals for a 12th straight season. The Sounders got goals from their dynamic line of Nicolas Lodeiro, Raul Ruidiaz and Jordan Morris, who are now the top three scorers in franchise playoff history. They will now play against FC Dallas on December 1 or 2.

SOUNDS 3, LAFC 1: Jordan Morris joined the party, notching his sixth career playoff goal thanks to an assist from Raul Ruidiaz.

SOUNDS 2, LAFC 1: Eduard Atuesta brought LAFC to life with the goal of cutting the deficit in half.

SOUNDS 2, LAFC 0: The Sounders have been knocking on the door for several minutes and have finally given themselves some breathing room on Raúl Ruidíaz’s eighth playoff goal.

PENALTY SAVE: Stefan Frei has historically not been very good on penalties, but he bailed out Nouhou on it to keep the 1-0 lead.

SOUNDS 1, LAFC 0: Nicolas Lodeiro scored his eighth career playoff goal to give the Sounders the first lead. With the strike, Lodeiro edged Raúl Ruidíaz for the Sounders’ all-time header. It was also Jordan Morris’ third playoff assist.

The playoffs haven’t been a strange experience for the Seattle Sounders over the years. But even the most common things in 2020 are weird, and the start of the 2020 MLS playoffs has been crazy. Who knows what awaits us tonight as the Sounders face LAFC, a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals?

The scenario couldn’t be more different from last year, however. LAFC have struggled to stay healthy this season and will enter this game shorthanded (see injury report below). They were in a similar situation the last time these two teams faced each other and Los Angeles claimed a 3-1 victory.

But, like I said, it’s the playoffs and Seattle is made for it. The Sounders are (relatively speaking) at full power and have plenty of options all over the place.

Seattle:

OUT: Xavier Arreaga (D) – quarantine

LAFC:

OUT: Andy Najar (R) – injury not disclosed; Danny Musovksi (F) – injury not disclosed; Diego Palacios (R) – injury not revealed; Diego Rossi (F) – injury not revealed; Brian Rodriguez (F) – injury not disclosed; Jose Cifuentes (M) – injury not revealed
