Contessa barefoot Star Ina Garten took a six-week hiatus from social media over the summer. But now she’s finally back with more recipes and refreshing cocktail ideas during her media blitz for her new cookbook, Modern comfort food. For fans of decadent desserts, Garten has shared his favorites on his website, and it includes recipes that even beginners can handle.
Ina Garten’s goal throughout the pandemic
Garten’s Instagram page is filled with photos of mouthwatering food, and when the pandemic started in March, she was posting regularly. The Food Network star told PBS Newshour in April 2020 that sharing his recipes and ideas with his 2.8 million subscribers made his purpose meaningful during the lockdown.
“At first, I thought to myself, how can I connect with people and give them tools to feel better?” Garten explained. “And so, I thought, well, maybe I’ll do something for my pantry.”
She added that it was starting to become a town hall where people could ask her questions and she could answer them directly. Garten says it made her feel “very connected to people” and maybe she could help solve their problems.
However, that all apparently changed in early June. Garten posted a black square in support of Blackout on Tuesday following the death of George Floyd. It was until July 17th.
Barefoot Contessa shares a perfect peach pie
When Garten finally returned to social media after her absence, she wowed fans by sharing a photo of “the best peach pie” she has ever made. The trellis pie was Garten’s “weekend project”, and she noted that she added orange zest and orange juice to the recipe to make the peaches taste more “peachy”.
She shared the complete “beginner” peach pie recipe, which also included six large ripe peaches, sugar, cornstarch, unsalted butter, flour, pie crust, and eggs.

While the recipe for peach pie isn’t in his latest cookbook, there are plenty of sweets to choose from. When Garten announced the release of Modern comfort food on Instagram, she said that it “is filled with some really satisfying recipes” that her fans will want to make for themselves and the people they love.
Garten also promised that the Boston Cream Pie recipe alone would make anyone a hero in their house. Other sweet treats Modern comfort food include black and white cookies, an applesauce cake with bourbon cream cheese frosting and a banana and rum trifle.
Ina Garten’s Favorite Desserts of All Time
Although the purchase of Modern comfort food will improve your cooking game, it doesn’t include all of Garten’s favorite dessert recipes. Beginner recipes on her list include Balsamic Strawberry Panna Cotta and Outrageous Brownies.
For those at the intermediate level, Garten shared his old-fashioned apple crumble, mocha chocolate iced cake, mixed berry pavlova, Eton’s mess, chocolate cupcakes and buttercream frosting recipes. Peanut, Carrot Cake with Ginger-Mascarpone Frosting and Beatty Chocolate Cake.
The famous chef also shared her favorite dessert recipes for those with advanced pastry skills. These included the French apple pie and the pumpkin roulade with ginger buttercream.
Garten never forgets his fans who prefer a refreshing cocktail to a decadent dessert.
At the start of the pandemic, the Barefoot Contessa shared her recipe for six servings of perfectly chilled Cosmos, which included two cups (16 ounces) of vodka. Garten suggested his fans choose Finlandia or Gray Goose.
She also added a cup (8 ounces) of Triple sec or Cointreau, a cup of cranberry juice cocktail, and half a cup of freshly squeezed lime juice.
