GOP lawmaker to Trump: drop election argument ‘for the good of our nation’

Mitchell tweeted Sunday in response to Trump, who posted on Twitter: “Everyone knows that was rigged. They know that Biden didn’t get more votes from the black community than Obama did, and certainly didn’t get 80,000,000 votes. Check out what happened in Detroit, Philadelphia, and more!

Twitter reported that Trump’s post contained disputed claims about the presidential election.

The president has repeatedly promoted conspiracy theories and false allegations of voter fraud in key battlefield states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania, and particularly in urban population centers such as Detroit and Philadelphia. Legal challenges to the Trump campaign results have faced one defeat after another.

Mitchell is the latest Michigan Republican to push back on the president’s claims and defend the integrity of the state’s electoral process. Last week, Rep. “You have to let these votes hold. People know the process. … I voted absent. My wife too. My parents too. My brother and his wife too. The process has been in place for a long time. It works. And there is no fraud problem anywhere, ”he added.

State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (right) and State House of Representatives Speaker Lee Chatfield (right) also threw cold water on calls for nominations pro-Trump voters despite the statewide outcome.

“We will follow the law and go through the normal process for Michigan voters, as we have said throughout this election,” the two Republican lawmakers said in a joint statement.
