EXCLUSIVE: Roadside Attractions opens Roberto Benigni’s news Pinocchio film by filmmaker Matteo Garrone on Christmas Day in the United States on 2,000 screens. Garrone (Dogman, Fairy Tale, Gomorrah) co-wrote the screenplay with Massimo Ceccherini and reunited with cinematographer Nicolai Brüel, production designer Dimitri Capuani, costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini and editor Marco Spoletini. Two-time Oscar winner Mark Coulier (The Grand Budapest Hotel, the Iron Lady) brought Pinocchio and his friends to life. Oscar-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Paddington 2, Darkest Hour, Atonement) wrote the original score. Visual effects were created by Rachael Penfold and her BAFTA and Emmy award-winning team One of us.
The producers are Matteo Garrone d’Archimède, Jean and Ann-Laure Labadie of Le Pacte, Jeremy Thomas of Recorded Picture Company and Paolo Del Brocco of Rai Cinema. The executive producers are Alessio Lazzareschi, Peter Watson and Marie-Gabrielle Stewart.
