ALLEN PARK – Detroit Lions plan to drop wide receiver Marvin Hall, report from Mike Garafolo from the NFL network.
Hall, 27, has 17 catches for 290 yards and two touchdowns in five starts this year. He saw an increase in playing time due to injuries to Lions wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola. Golladay has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game in Chicago. Amendola, 35, resumed training this week and enters Week 13 with no injury designation. Marvin Jones has played a role most of the season, but has remained silent outside of a few outings.
Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus has seen at least two targets and 15 shots in the previous four games, so an increased role may be on the way for the fifth-round rookie. In his report, Garafolo says Detroit is leaving Hall to “take a look at some of the younger ones.” It should be noted that Cephus is the only receiver locked up beyond this season in Detroit.
Jamal Agnew and Mohamed Sanu are other options on the list. Agnew, the former All-Pro return specialist, switched to wide receiver in the last offseason. He continued to see sporadic glances out of the backfield and into the distance without much of an impact. Agnew, 25, is new to the job, and the Lions may want to kick the tires a little harder in this experience. Sanu, 31, was signed from the practice squad last week and made a strong early impression. The veteran wide receiver caught all four targets for 32 yards and a touchdown last week, adding a successful two-point conversion capture.

Another option to see some of Hall’s work is rookie undrafted tight winger Hunter Bryant, who recently returned to training. Bryant brings unique athleticism to the position and has shown some serious pass-catching skills in training camp. He has been bothered with injuries since get. Still, Lions caretaker coach Darrell Bevell said he liked what he saw of Bryant at camp and wanted “to give him the opportunity to come out on the field, see what he can do, see what we have ”.
Victor Bolden and Tom Kennedy represent the team’s practice team receivers. The two are more than familiar with the system and Bevell, spending most of the last two seasons at Allen Park.
It’s safe to assume that Hall will draw suitors to the wire, for what it’s worth. He slammed it with Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford last season, catching seven balls for a whopping 261 yards and a score in nine games. Hall has shown signs of growth along the way, but is looking for a new team to end the year.
